Keep Calm and Carry On

Yesterday I had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Ike Reighard and several other church planters and pastors. He presented a talk entitled “Turning Crisis Into Opportunity.” He gave us each a poster of the sign to the left. During World War 2, Nazi Germany was bombing London on a regular basis. The results of bombing a civilian population were horrifying and disheartening. In an effort to maintain the resolve of the English people, Winston Churchill issued this poster “Keep Calm and Carry On” (along with two other posters) to be hung throughout the country. Crisis was met with outstanding resolve.

I wanted to share with you the notes from this talk on how to deal with adversity.

1) It is one thing to tell your story. It is another to live your story.

2) Your mess will become your message.

3) The last human freedom that we posses is our ability to choose our attitude in any given set of circumstances.

4) Our ability to respond rather react will be a key factor in moving forward.

5) It is not what happens to us, but what happens within us that shapes our future.

6) Character is never made in a crisis, but it is revealed in a crisis.

7) Although darkness surrounds you, the darkness does not have to be within you.

8) Trouble handled rightly honors God.

9) A crisis does not have to define you, but it will shape you.

10) A crisis should call you to your highest and best, rather than your lowest and least.
